  • < Back to education projects

Offered in conjunction with the two solo exhibitions by John Currin and Berlinde De Bruyckere at DHC/ART Foundation for Contemporary Art from June 30 – November 13, 2011, CORPUS is a unique project that links and considers the approaches of both artists.

The CORPUS project is offered to all groups who take part in an interactive tour of the exhibitions presented by DHC/ART educators. The public will be able to participate in CORPUS during two open house workshops. Reservations are required and places are limited.

Description:

DHC/ART educators will contextualize the exhibitions in order for participants to discern the issues of representation of the body that traverse both artistic approaches. The body, translated through the visual languages of fashion, advertising, and the history of portraiture, inspire John Currin’s paintings. Berlinde De Bruyckere’s work is stirred by images of the body taken from photographs of war and other suffering.

1. Each participant will look though a gathering of images taken from newspapers, magazines, books on painting as well as other diverse historical archives for initial inspiration for their creation.

2. Each participant will receive a hanger that can be used as either as the basis for a sculptural work or as a frame for a two-dimensional work.

3. Fabric or paper will be available to the participant to further elaborate their creation of either a two or three-dimensional work.

Materials:

The participant can choose to cut, write on, draw, paint, model and/or sculpt the fabric or paper.

While materials will be available, participants are invited to choose and bring their own fabric or paper to add a personal dimension to their creation.

The hanger and basic materials for the creation of the project will be furnished by DHC/ART.

Presentation of projects:

All works will be presented in our virtual gallery on DHC/ART’s website. During the period of the exhibition, they will also be on display in the Education space.

A reception at the end of CORPUS will take place at the end of the exhibitions. Participants will have the opportunity to pick up their projects and participate in a “happening”.

Happening: November 3rd, 2011 at 4 pm

During the reception to close the CORPUS project, DHC/ART – Education invites participants and the public to take part in a collective, artistic gesture. This “happening” is a festive and participative initiative to thank the creators for taking part in the project. More details to come.
