Event
DHC/ART Foundation for Contemporary Art, is pleased to announce its participation, as exclusive sponsor, for the David Altmejd exhibition in the Canadian Pavilion of the 2007 Venice Biennale. DHC/ART is proud to support this young Montreal artist at such a crucial moment in an already impressive career. We're also delighted to collaborate with Louise Déry, an outstanding curator who has enlivened cultural life immeasurably both in Quebec and Canada for over two decades.
Biography
A marriage of the grotesque and the glamorous, David Altmejd's spectacular sculptural installations offer rich sensory experiences. His clashing, complex vocabulary explores the interplay of the animal and the human, the biological and the mineral. Delicate and abject in equal measures, his mirrored support structures display and reflect decay, transformation and monstrous hybridity. Indeed, the werewolf - a figure of legend and myth, half man, half animal, a metaphor dramatizing genetic aberration - is at the center of the Venice exhibition.
