DHC/ART hosts renowned Canadian artist Michael Snow who will offer two screenings of his film PRESENTS in 16mm projection format. Michael Snow will introduce his film and talk with the audience following each screening. This event is offered in conjunction with the Christian Marclay exhibition REPLAY.
PRESENTS became a strong influence for numerous artists since its first screening in the early eighties. The film is composed of two parts, the first representing the artifice of the cinematic image and the second delving into the naturalistic or documentary means of creating images. These screenings at DHC/ART are an opportunity for Montrealers to revisit or discover this timeless experimental film classic.
Biography
Michael Snow (Toronto, 1929) is considered on of Canada’s most important artists. A prolific painter, photographer, sculptor, musician and filmmaker, Snow’s art explores the possibilities inherent in different mediums and practices. He has received many international awards, and his work is shown continually in retrospectives around the world. With each piece, Snow invites us to contemplate and put into question his chosen medium, in an oscillation between what is represented, its process and material.
